Partner with the practice
- Identify the physician to champion the process
- Work closely with the practice manager
Assess the practice
- Observe and discuss the work flow of various individuals and teams
- Gather appropriate practice information (eg, DEA numbers)
- Devise a schedule for training, implementation, and follow-up
Revise the GMA templates as necessary, based on the practice’s needs
Train physicians and staff, either on-site or off-site
Navigate the EHR launch, working closely with physicians and staff to ensure a successful “go-live”
Evaluate progress
- Identify challenging areas
- Tweak processes and train further, as needed
Revisit the practice after 6, 12, and 18 months
- Adjust and train as necessary for increased understanding and use
- Attain the objective of meeting and exceeding the standard of “meaningful use”
